As you can tell from the title, I will be reviewing/ doing a comparison between the two moonshot cushions on this gloomy Friday afternoon.
I was hesitating on whether or not to get this cushion, as I've came across many mixed reviews, some said they didn't like the finish, some said it was very skin-like (also what I always try to achieve for my base makeup) some said the coverage was low some said it was higher coverage than the microfit cushion. I thought, if this cushion could provide the same if not better application plus finish as the microfit cushion with slightly higher coverage, it would definitely be my holy grail! Also, with Rosé's and Jisoo's faces looking heavenly good in the endorsing posters and videos, I was succumbed.
I have only got my hands on the Face Perfection Balm Cushion (aka BLACKPINK CUSHION) earlier this month and found out that they have released a newer cushion called the Micro Setting Fit Cushion for the summer season in Korea. And of course, I do not own that now, sadly.
The reason I got the Face Perfection Balm Cushion was largely due to my liking of the Microfit Cushion (aka GD CUSHION). It also took me quite some time to get my hands on that gd cushion as it isn't a low priced cushion after all. Note that the Microfit Cushion is a sponge type cushion and the Face Perfection Balm Cushion is a mesh type cushion. Now, let's get started-
Thoughts on the Microfit Cushion:
I've got to say, it is worth every single penny!!! Maybe it's because the microfit cushion hits all the targets i have for a cushion foundation. Once you pat the product on your face using the puff (and yas moonshot puffs are my fav, rocking that elastic band), you can feel a slight cooling sensation and the fragrance is like some sort of floral air freshener. The coverage is somewhere between low to medium, would definitely need another concealer for serious hyperpigmentations and dark spots. As for darkcircles and under eyebags, I would say the coverage is enough, if not natural.
It gives a semi-matte, semi-dewy kind of finish which I absolutely love. You can also powder your face after if you prefer matte finish. I'm not a frequent powder user as I find powder tends to make my face look flat and I personally like the semi matte finish it gives. The cushion does last for more than half a day and tend to oil up at the end of the day. Note that I have oily-dehydrated skin, almost every single foundation or base product I've tried does oil up on me at the end of the day. As crazy as this might sound to some people, I actually enjoy how the oil on my face melts and blend in with certain foundation (sort of like the oil on my face hugging the foundation), and not all foundation can do that. But this cushion does that very nicely. So that's a plus.
Now let's move on to the Face Perfection Balm Cushion before I keep on rambling,

What I was excited the most for the balm cushion was the SKIN LIKE FINISH that it is promoted for.
But, it let me down a bit tbh. Upon application, it can be a bit cakey and powdery. Application wise, it feels very similar to the Missha Original Tension Pact (natural cover is the one i have). The product just adheres onto your face and sort of just sits there so it is transferable, with that being said, it needs to be blended evenly across the face to create that skin-like finish, though it was not how it looked like on Blackpink lol.
In terms of coverage, I would say that it is similar to the microfit cushion, low to medium. To be frank, I wasn't very pleased with the balm cushion at first, especially the finish upon application, compared to the microfit cushion which sets to a semi-matte finish, the balm cushion feels a bit tacky. But once the product sets on your face, the cakey-ness is gone and throughout the day, it gets more and more skin-like. It does oil up on me, just like the microfit cushion, with the let down that it is easily transferable. It holds up pretty well as long as you don't touch or rub your face a lot. In other words, it moves around when you move it (sounds a bit silly when I say this but this is how it is to me loll). Another downside to the balm cushion is the puff, the edges of puff where the top and bottom half meet can be prickly on the face.
Update: (using it with a light layer of powder on top), it doesn't look good at all at the end of the day, pores were accentuated and especially on my forehead, the separation was obvious and looked really bad.
I've tried using it with the Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder and the Eglips Blur Powder Pact, they both have didn't look well with the cushion at the end of the day. BUT, with the new powder I've bought from Hourglass ( Ambient Lighting Power in Dim Light), there wasn't any caking problem, the cushion still looked okay at the end of the day with that powder on top!!!!
Overall, I would say that both cushions are relatively different upon application, but they can look very similar at the end of the day. I would recommend the Microfit Cushion to anyone or any skin types as I really enjoyed using it and many reviews that I've seen said that it is very similar to the YSL Cushion (YSL Le Cushion Encre de Peau). This cushion is really worth trying unless you prefer only high to full coverage foundations. As for the Face Perfection Balm Cushion, the only downside I can say is the tackiness, but with some powder, it can be gone. So it is still a pretty good cushion considering how it holds up nicely and gives you the close to skin-like finish throughout the day. (yes, it didn't live up to my expectations with the promised SKIN LIKE FINISH). And if you don't like any oiliness in your foundation, you might wanna steer away from the balm cushion as it is quite moisturizing.
Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the packaging from moonshot. Like, out of so many cosmetics products that I've seen, moonshot has one of the best packaging. The always look so chic and professional yet fun at the same time!!! So far with all the moonshot products I've tried(I've also tried their concealer), they seemed to not only look good but also worked pretty well on me. I've heard great things about their jelly eye pots and their lip products (and omg all the bp promotional videos). There is also a few other base products that I really want to try such as the Face Perfection Balm that I saw Suhyun from AKMU using it in her makeup videos. Gotta earn more money for that TT....
